one of the most anticipated red carpet events of the year: the Met Gala. Hosted in celebration of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s spring exhibition and led by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, the annual fundraiser has evolved into a global showcase of luxury fashion, celebrity style, and artistic expression.

The 2026 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 4, with this year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” inspiring celebrities and designers to transform the iconic Met steps into a living gallery of couture. From sculptural gowns to painterly embellishments and cinematic references, the 2026 Met Gala red carpet celebrated fashion as a true art form.

What Does the “Fashion Is Art” Met Gala Theme Mean?

The idea behind the “Fashion Is Art” theme was to treat the body as a canvas and clothing itself as wearable artwork. Rather than interpreting the concept literally, designers used the theme as creative inspiration - exploring silhouette, texture, colour, craftsmanship, and storytelling to create visually striking couture moments.

At The Design Agent, we’ve curated our top 10 best dressed celebrities from the 2026 Met Gala, highlighting the standout fashion moments, designer details, and artistic inspirations that made each look unforgettable.
